Im Frühling genießen die Wiener die blühenden Gärten der Stadt. Es lockt der Prater, das Pratercottage, die schönen Villen, ihre Bewohner, ihre Geschichten und deren Sportanlagen, Beliebt ist auch das Währinger Villenviertel rund um den Türkenschanzpark für eine Stadterkundung.

In den Sommermonaten verbringt man die schönsten Momente in Wien am Wasser. Zum Beispiel am Strand von Wien entlang des Donaukanals oder an der Alten Donau. Viele Strandbäder und Restaurants locken Gäste von nah und fern. Eine Führung entlang der Alten Donau und dem Gänsehäufel zeigt die Entwicklung der Badekultur vom 19. Jahrhundert bis heute. Und natürlich kann man an den Donauständen gut chillen.

Aber auch viele Sportler nützen den Frühling und Sommer in Wien. Der Sport hat hier eine lange Tradition. Vor kurzem wurde die Prater Hauptallee, die auch Teil des Stadtmarathons im Frühling ist, zum Welterbe erklärt. Ein Besuch einiger Stadien, Sportereignisse wie die EURO 2008 sind auch Teil meiner Sportführung im August.

Ein spezielles Angebot biete ich allen im Sternbild Krebs Geborenen: auf den Spuren bekannter Persönlichkeiten, die im Monat Juni geboren sind, ihr Glück, ihre Liebe, ihr Beruf, wie sich das Horoskop damals und heute verwirklicht hat.

In die Seele und Literatur Wiens blicke ich mit der Führung zu Schnitzler’s Leben und die Gesellschaft um 1900 in Wien. Niemand hat die Stadt und ihre Bewohner mit solch einem psychologischen Blick in seinen Werken beschrieben, und damit auch so manchen Skandal ausgelöst. Zu Recht? Das wird meine Führung zu historischen und literarischen Plätzen und deren Vorbilder im Werk von Schnitzler zeigen.

Vienna ‒ green city, culture, literature and cooling off on the Danube

In spring, the Viennese enjoy the city’s blooming gardens. The Prater, the Pratercottage, the beautiful villas and sports facilities are tempting. The Währing villa district around the Türkenschanzpark is also popular for exploring the city.

In the summer months you spend the most beautiful moments in Vienna by the water. For example on the beach in Vienna along the Danube Canal or on the Old Danube. Many lidos and restaurants attract guests from near and far. A guided tour along the Old Danube and the Gänsehäufel shows the development of bathing culture from the 19th century to the present day. And of course you can chill on the Danube.

But many athletes are also taking advantage of spring and summer in Vienna. Sport has a long tradition in Vienna. The Prater Hauptallee, which is part of the city marathon, was recently declared a World Heritage Site. A visit to some stadiums, sports events like the EURO 2008 are also part of my sports tour in August.

Los días son cada vez más largos, las temperaturas suben, la naturaleza ha vuelto del invierno. Las regulaciones de COVID-19 ahora también les permiten salir en visitas guiadas y paseos por la ciudad.

La Pascua en Viena es también un festival de mercados y procesiones. La peregrinación de la Catedral de San Esteban al Calvario a Hernals comenzó en el siglo XVII, un evento importante de la Iglesia Católica en el año eclesiástico. A lo largo de la Ringstrasse, los jardineros ya están trabajando duro en los futuros macizos de flores y convirtiendo los espacios verdes públicos en grandes y coloridos jardines del paraíso.

Una visita a los parques a lo largo de la Ringstrasse muestra el patrimonio cultural mundial desde su lado más colorido. Fuera del centro de la ciudad, los primeros árboles están floreciendo en el Prater y en los suburbios. Las familias aristocráticas y de clase alta construyeron aquí sus residencias de verano ya en el siglo XVIII. Hace 130 años, basado en el modelo inglés, surgió el “movimiento de chalet”, según el cual se construyó un palacio con jardín en un entorno verde. La noble sociedad de Viena se reunió en estos barrios para intercambiar ideas y establecer lazos familiares. En invierno, la gente vivía en palacios de la ciudad a lo largo de la Ringstrasse, en primavera se trasladaba a los palacios de verano en los suburbios de Viena.

La Pasqua a Vienna è anche una festa dei mercatini e processioni. Un evento importante nell’anno della chiesa cattolica è il pellegrinaggio dalla Cattedrale di Santo Stefano al Kalvarienberg (Sacro Monte) a Hernals che iniziò nel XVII secolo. Lungo la Ringstrasse, i giardinieri stanno già lavorando duramente alle future aiuole e trasformando gli spazi verdi pubblici in grandi e colorati giardini paradisiaci.

Una visita ai parchi lungo la Ringstrasse mostra il patrimonio culturale mondiale dal suo lato più colorato. Fuori dal centro cittadino, i primi alberi fioriscono nel Prater e in periferia. Famiglie aristocratiche e dell’alta borghesia lì costruirono le loro residenze estive già nel XVIII secolo. 130 anni fa nacque il “Cottage Movement“, analogo al modello inglese, secondo il quale dei palazzi signorili con giardino sono stati costruiti “nella natura”. La società nobile viennese si riuniva in questi quartieri per scambiare idee e stringere legami familiari. In inverno gli aristocratici vivevano nei palazzi cittadini lungo la Ringstrasse, in primavera si trasferivano nei palazzi estivi nei sobborghi di Vienna. Durante le mie visite guidate nei quartieri di Vienna, incontreremo numerosi importanti scrittori, attori, architetti, compositori, fondatori di imprese, aristocratici e ancora molti altri.

The flowers and trees along the Ringstraße start blooming when the days become longer and the temperature is increasing. After the strict restrictions due to the Corona pandemic it is slowly possible to join walking tours in Vienna.

Easter in Vienna is also a time for markets and processions. In the 17^th century the Roman Catholic church established a pilgrimage from St. Stephen’s  Cathedral to the Calvary Mount in Hernals. The Calvary church there was built between 1709 and 1714, funded mostly by private donations. The mount is U-shaped with an entrance and an exit area and a crucifix group in its center. For a city with close to two million inhabitants, Vienna is a green city, 53% of the municipal area is made up by green space.

The many parks on the Ringstraße invite the visitors to discover the blooming trees and spring time flowers recently planted by the gardeners of the city of Vienna.  In the Cottage quarters of Währing and Döbling in springtime you can visit an exquisite and favored residential area, whose layout at one time oriented itself toward the English archetype of residential living. In the dialect of Vienna, “koteesch” corresponds to the English word, cottage, little house, or small, elegant country house in rustic style. The origin of Vienna’s Cottage district, currently consisting of about 8,000 residents, is inextricably linked with the name of the famous architect who designed the Ringstraße, Heinrich von Ferstel. In the private gardens of the residences you can find chestnut trees, lilac and tulips. Palaces of the Viennese nobility and the high bourgeois families show the splendor of 19^th century Vienna.

During my walking tours you will become acquainted with famous authors, composers, architects, actors, opera singers, self-made men and other families, who wanted to live close to each other arranging family parties and their next weddings.

Pâques à Vienne est aussi un festival des marchés et des processions. Un événement important dans l’année de l’Église catholique, le pèlerinage de la cathédrale Saint-Étienne au Kalvarienberg (calvaire) à Hernals a commencé au 17^e siècle. Le long de la Ringstrasse, les jardiniers travaillent déjà dur sur les futurs parterres de fleurs et transforment les espaces verts publics en grands jardins paradisiaques colorés.

Une visite des parcs le long de la Ringstrasse montre le patrimoine culturel mondial sous son aspect le plus coloré. En dehors du centre-ville, les premiers arbres fleurissent dans le Prater et en banlieue. Des familles nobles et de la classe supérieure y ont construit leurs résidences d’été dès le 18^e siècle. Il y a 130 ans, sur le modèle anglais, le „mouvement cottage“ a vu le jour: des palais majestueux avec jardins ont éte construits „dans la nature“. La bonne société de Vienne s’est réunie dans ces quartiers pour échanger des idées et établir des liens familiaux. En hiver, les nobles vivaient dans des palais de ville le long de la Ringstrasse, au printemps, ils déménageaient dans les palais d’été situés dans la banlieue de Vienne.

Ostern in Wien ist auch ein Fest der Märkte und der Prozessionen. Im 17. Jahrhundert begann die Wallfahrt vom Stephansdom nach Hernals zum Kalvarienberg, ein wichtiges Ereignis der katholischen Kirche im Kirchenjahr. Entlang der Ringstraße arbeiten nun schon die Gärtner fleißig an den künftigen Blumenbeeten und machen aus den öffentlichen Grünflächen große Paradiesgärten voller Farbe.

Ein Besuch der Parkanlagen entlang der Ringstraße zeigt das Weltkulturerbe von seiner buntesten Seite. Außerhalb des Stadtzentrums blühen die ersten Bäume im Prater und in den Vorstädten. Schon im 18. Jahrhundert haben sich die adeligen und großbürgerlichen Familien hier ihre Sommerresidenzen errichtet. Vor 130 Jahren entstand nach englischem Vorbild die „Cottage-Bewegung“, nach der man sich standesgemäß im Grünen ein herrschaftliches Palais mit Garten errichten ließ. Die noble Gesellschaft Wiens traf sich in diesen Vierteln zum Gedankenaustausch und um verwandtschaftliche Bande zu knüpfen. Im Winter lebte man in Stadtpalais entlang der Ringstraße, im Frühling zog man dann in die Sommerpalais in die Vororte Wiens.

Als Musiker in zwei Orchestern ist es mir ein Anliegen auf die große Musiktradition Wiens in Theorie und Praxis hinzuweisen. Dabei sind mir nicht nur die zahlreichen Musiker-Gedenkstätten als „Genius Loci“ für das Leben und Wirken der Komponisten und Künstler wichtig, sondern auch deren Musik- und Konzertsäle. Ich führe Sie an Orte in Wien, an denen Komponisten wie Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, Mahler, Strauss u.a. gelebt und gewirkt haben.

As for “genius loci”, the numerous commemorations sites for many musicians’ lives and works are important, but also their music and concert halls: the places where the compositions of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, Mahler, Strauss and many others who lived and worked in Vienna, were played for the first time or are still being played.
